If the washing machine is not installed correctly, it vibrates during rotations, making excessive noise and damaging the appliance in the long run. According to appliance repair engineer Jacob Dillard of Appliance Repair Expert, all washing machine feet are usually adjustable, and over time, they can lose their original position due to shaking, operation, or when someone moves the machine.
A tool called a level will help you.
A level is a piece of aluminum stick with a small liquid container and a bubble in it.
To test the unit’s level, ensure that the drop stays in the middle between two black lines, whether you measure the level on a horizontal or vertical axis.
To check that the washing machine is levelled, measure the level on the front of the appliance horizontally, on the back and side of the appliance. Make sure that all sides are levelled equally so that the bubble remains exactly in the middle.
If the machine does not stand level, you must adjust the leg in the off position. Follow the level measures to determine which leg needs to be adjusted. Most of the washer’s legs are screwed in as big bolts with rubber padding and can be adjusted by hand, but sometimes you will need a wrench to screw the legs.
In some old-generation washing machines, back legs are levelled by weight and have a mechanism to balance both back legs equally. If the back legs need to be raised or lowered, tilt the machine forward and let go till the legs meet the floor and fix. Sometimes, the legs might get stuck due to age, so you must tilt the unit several times until the desired result is met.
If your washing machine’s feet do not allow it to stand upright and vibrate enough during operation, additional pads can help. Let’s take a look at the 3 types of pads you can use:
Rubber foot pads: These pads go underneath the feet of a washer to help level and stabilize it, especially on uneven floors. To use, place the pads as needed underneath the washer’s feet before sliding the washer into place. Adjust them until the machine is level.
Anti-vibration pads: These pads go underneath the washer feet and provide cushioning and reduce vibration that can cause excess noise and “walking.” Simply attach the pads to the bottom of each machine foot before putting the washer into the intended space. This should dampen noise and movement.
Grippy pads: They provide extra friction and grip to keep the washer from sliding and “walking.” Simply stick these pads directly onto each of the washing machine’s feet before putting it in place. This will help to secure the machine during use.
The use of a level is crucial to ensure that the washing machine is levelled correctly. The level ensures the machine is balanced evenly from all sides and prevents vibrations, noise and potential damage over time.
Adjustable feet on washing machines are used to correct any imbalance. If one of the feet needs to be raised or lowered to match the level reading, most models can be adjusted manually or with a spanner. This allows you to adjust and fine-tune the level of the machine.
If the machine’s feet still do not provide adequate levelling, additional pads and accessories such as rubber foot pads, anti-vibration pads and grip pads are available. These accessories provide additional stabilization and reduce vibration from uneven floors or improper installation.
